A 72 Day Marriage

So this famous woman gets married with a huge, expensive party and then 72 days later she files for divorce. I suppose she has her reasons, whatever they may be. At least some people got to work for a few days, photographers, bakers, caterers, make-up artists, florists… it’s really none of my business why she ended her marriage so soon, but I don’t think she really gave it a good go. I’ve been married for 24 years now, and it’s not always been easy. There have been rough patches, but not even any speed bumps, just some unfinished pavement that wobbled the ride a tiny bit for a while. I guess when you jump in with both feet like me, giving up everything to move across the world and marry someone you hardly know, you have to expect that not everything always goes smoothly. But in the end, most of the time marriage pays you back for what you invest in it, and then some.

My husband supports me and my hobby – which happens to be photography. Not because he has the same interest. He doesn’t seem to care about photography, and the only camera he owns is the one on his iPhone. But he will gladly drive me around the province to get me to awesome locations where I can take pictures. He’ll carry my camera backpack if it gets too heavy for me. He doesn’t throw a fit when I think need yet another new lens. He is my biggest fan and loves every single picture I take.

That’s my husband. He gives me space to be my own person, and not just a wife. Not sure what I did to deserve someone as awesome as him. But I’ve got him now and I certainly won’t give him back.

I know why her marriage failed. She probably tried to find one like my husband, but he was already taken.
